The idea of having a woman president is more thrilling than Birkin bags selling for half off (granted, that still puts the Birkin in the $1,000s price range, but I don’t really want to dip lower and reveal how superficial I am).  However, I would like to suggest that we women do not get too intoxicated by the idea.  We have spent the past 70 years demanding that men not pick their allegiance based on gender, and it would cheapen our effort if we fell victim to the same temptation.

I know that it is tempting.  But, if a white male told me he liked John Edwards because he is a white male, it would be difficult to not write that person off on a permanent basis and refuse to listen to a future word of insight.  That is not the way to get a message heard.   We have not come this far to water down our efforts with arbitrary bias.  If Hillary wins this election, it should be on her own merit.  The victory for women everywhere would be immeasurable, but we cannot revert to the faulty logic we’ve fought for years to make that happen.
