moNOOOOOgram bumper stickers

To Whom It May Concern:

There’s been some conversation on our blog about monogram bumper stickers.  We want to state that we are categorically, emphatically, and adamantly against these monstrosities.  Monogram bumper stickers are why everyone beyond our Mason Dixon bubble thinks Southerners are not cool.  And unfortunately, if you put one of these stickers on your car, you are not cool either.  Bottom line:  STOP THE MOVEMENT.

  • I’ll confess that I saw my first one yesterday while walking at Lakebottom and thought it was a tacky attempt for individualism. Anyone over sixteen should have thier cool card taken away for this. But tell me, is it any different than the monogrammed bookbags and totes of our time?

  • this is the most upsetting thing i have seen in a long time. these people must be saved from themselves.

  • Willette, is it different? yes. Can we explain why? no. It’s just taking something to a whole new level. Think of it this way. Is it okay to tattoo a little flower on your ankle? yes. Is it okay to tattoo a huge crucifix across your back? no

  • so glad to see that others find these stickers horrendous. maybe they should make one with a vera bradley print background that says “im 16 and my daddy bought me this car and i would be a great person to rob and hijack because my car is full of credit cards and designer sunglasses and david yurman jewelry”, you know, in case their initials spell something weird, like poor Patricia Teresa Oberg, (pOt), and they dont want to do the monogram thing. come to think of it, if i were more entrepreneurial, i would go ahead and partner with vera bradley and start making those stickers asap!
love the site by the way! hope to see you soon!

  • i’ve thought this for a while, and no one agreed with me. now i know longer feel alone. thanks, elizabethlaney.wordpress.com.

  • Crap!!! Well, apparently, I’m a total loser b/c I absolutely LOVE these monogram bumper stickers! I think they are entirely “sorority girl-ish” but I think they’re adorable. No I do not have one, and now I’d rather drink a pint of blood than expose myself to such intense scruntiny, but in my book, those girls get an extra little star on their cool card. And I’m sticking to it.

  • Isa, we’d like to thank you for your comments. however, we here at elizabethlaney think that you might not be our target audience. you might want to consider some of the other blogs out there - such as auburngirlsarehowidefinecool.com or lilypulitzerismymarcjacobs.net. while we appreciate all viewpoints, we want to make sure our readers time is worthwhile. happy surfing!

  • Isa, don’t worry - i’ve also been told that i’m not elizabethlaney’s target audience…

    Dear Isa and Lucy,

We love you both very much. We will always be very different. Please feel free to read the site. You will never be our target audience.

    Love,

  • just read this post… i think these are hilarious (and awful!)

  • I cannot believe the shallow responses from you girls. I own a very successful boutique in manhattan and have sold a million of these car monograms. You girls need to grow up and get with it.

  • Sarah, hmmm. Most people don’t drive in NYC, no?

  • Once again you have missed the point, you do not have to put these on cars. They can be used on walls, cell phones, acrylic tubes, etc. I guess you did not see the today show last december. Apparently ann currie likes these items but I guess she is not very hip.

  • Sarah, thanks for the tip. Honestly, we thought it was just a Southern thing, so it does make us feel better that Manhattanites have them too!

  • If you’re looking for hits on your website ElizabethLaney, I wouldn’t degrade the people commenting on your post with your sarcastic remarks on finding other blogs. Everyone won’t always agree with you and I find it quite shallow that you treat people that way.

  • Paige, thanks for your comment. If you are talking about our response to Isa and Lucy, we know them on a personal level. We were only teasing them. If you are talking about another response, we are very sorry and will try to be more aware of this in the future. Thank you for reading!

  • Oh, Sarah, and her ‘Manhattan boutique.’ Yes, these eyesores were spoken about on the Today Show last December, as were Chia Pets in 1982. That by no means makes them cool. Also, sweetie, it is now April 2008. By this point in time, December 2007 is like ancient history in Manhattan. Get with the times.
elizabethlaney, you’re spot on. Love your blog.

  • nycgirl - ha! thanks for the comment - lol. So glad you like the blog! Please keep reading.

  • NYC girl- really? ha!

NYC girl- get over yourself! Eyesores? Do you know how long monograms have been around? They are classic and timeless- not to mention they are even incorporated in the logos of fashion icons such as Chanel and LV. Such serious pent up frustrations from you young ladies! Get a real cause to beat up on. The “Ann Coulter” thing really isn’t becoming…good luck!
